Cacao

What is Cacao

Cacao is the fermented and roasted seed of Theobroma Cacao, a tree indigenous to Mesoamerica.  It is a superfood.  It is psychoactive. It is heart opening.   It is plant medicine.  It contains high levels of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and many other nutrients that benefit the body;  theobromine, anandamide, phenylethylamine and other compounds that uplift and calm the mind.

Consuming ceremonial grade cacao generally induces a state of calm focus and euphoria.  It opens the door to connect with your inner self and with others.

Chocolate is derived from Cacao but is heavily processed to remove fats and add fillers, sweeteners and other compounds to make it more palatable and marketable.  These processes reduce or eliminate most of the positive effects of Cacao.  Ceremonial grade Cacao is generally not available in US grocery stores even if the word Cacao is used on the label.

A Cacao ceremony is the conscious and intentional consumption of Cacao that includes recognizing the cacao’s lineage and source, honoring the elements, and calling in one’s gratitudes and intentions.  A guided meditation is commonly used to bring the participant into a state of deep relaxation.
